As the capital of the province of Gelderland, Arnhem has a rich and colourful history which is reflected in a number of its listed buildings. The famous John Frost Bridge was literally and figuratively 'a bridge too far' during the world-famous Battle of Arnhem. Another fascinating location is the Maarten van Rossumhuis (also known as the Devil's House), the Sabelpoort gate and the medieval house known as 'Presickhaeffs Huys'.

The 40 mediaeval cellars which are being restored to their former glory and linked together under the shopping streets, give you an insight into what Arnhem looked like under the ground in olden times. The Great Church or St. Eusebius' Church towers above the city. In this late Gothic cruciform basilica there is a unique glass lift which rises up to a height of no fewer than 73 metres.
