The 1st Border Regiment landed on 17th September and defended landing zone X near Wolfheze until the second wave of gliders had landed. After that, the regiment was responsible for defending the western border of the perimeter. This border ran from the van Lennepweg all the way to the high grounds of the Westerbouwing close to the Rhine river and was over two kilometers long. Not every meter of this line was covered with soldiers, but all open fields were defended from sheltered positions.
On this side of the road, soldiers of No. 15 and No. 16 Platoon of C Company dug in, waiting for the moment when they would have to repel an enemy attack.
